To Carry All the Bricks

The subtle ink that swiftly flows across
my flesh is but an autograph in blood,
a sanguine sign of life I have not lost.
As my head may rest upon my shoulders
and mirrors still remind me where I stand,
even as this painted weight grows older,
I will neither flake nor evaporate.
